Safety and radiation today
There are still radioactive places in the Chernobyl zone, although the levels now reach a fraction of the radiation from 1986. Much of the radioactive isotopes have got deeper into the soil. Today, there is mostly gama radiation present in the zone, which is disposed out of a human body pretty quickly. Beta radiation, which stays in human body forever, is located only close to the reactor sarcophagus. Thus, radiation at Chernobyl today is not harmful or dangerous for human health.
During two days in the Chernobyl zone, human body receives radiation dose equal to one X-ray screening in hospital or to one intercontinental flight.
